Species Saturday Vol 4: A lesson on rhinos

Happy Species Saturday! Our topic for today is rhinos 🦏

This week marked World Rhino Day, and we are here to appreciate ALL rhinos so we thought we'd share a bit of a guide on the rhino species roaming the planet right now...

🦏 The White Rhino is Africa's largest rhino species. There is the southern white rhino and northern white rhino, with the latter considered as extinct in the wild. There are between 17-18,000 left in the wild.

🦏 The Black rhino is about two thirds of the size of the white rhino, and is critically endangered with only 5,000 individuals left

🦏 The Greater One Horned Rhino (also known as the Indian Rhino) is Asia's largest rhino species and there are less than 4,000 left in the wild

🦏 The Sumatran Rhino is the closest living relative to the wooly rhinos, and is the only rhino species covered in fur. Less than 80 individuals left 😭

🦏 The Javan Rhinos are only found in Ujong Kulon National Park and there are 70 individuals left 😓

Thank you to our rhino sock charity @helpingrhinos for the info and of course all the work they do for our rhinos 🦏

All information taken from our wonderful charity partners Helping Rhinos.
